• A personal note on IGBP and the social sciences


    Humans are an integral component of the Earth system as conceptualised by IGBP. João Morais recalls key milestones in IGBP’s engagement with the social sciences and offers some words of advice for Future Earth.

National Committees

IGBP's network of national committees stretched throughout Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania. The network brought together scientists from the developing world with scientists in the developed world.

IGBP had apowerful network of 75+ national committees covering the developing and the developed world. Some of these national committees represented IGBP, others were global-change national committees representing IGBP and other international global-change programmes.

  • assisted funding strategies to support IGBP's research
  • connected developing-world scientists with researchers in the developed world
