Qin Dahe awarded major environment prize

Dr Qin Dahe, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change working group I, has been awarded the presigious Volvo Environment Prize. The Chinese glaciologist and climate scientist is a member of the Future Earth scientific committee and former member of the IGBP Scientific Committee (2007-2012).

Dr Qin, a leading expert on the cryosphere in central high Asia, played an active role in the IGBP Scientific Committee for many years including leading one of IGBP's synthesis activities relating to the cryosphere.


The Volvo Environment Prize is awarded for "Outstanding innovations or scientific discoveries which in broad terms fall within the environmental field". 


Laureates come from all fields of environmental and sustainability studies and initiatives.


The prize jury includes former IGBP director Will Steffen.


The Volvo Environment Prize consists of a diploma, a glass sculpture and a cash award for SEK 1.5 million (approximately EUR 167,000 or USD 209,000).
