Diana Liverman is the co-director of the University of Arizona Institute of the Environment.

She was the chair of the scientific advisory committee of the international Global Environmental Change and Food Systems (GECAFS) program.

Global-change researcher Diana Liverman presented IGBP's Great Acceleration graphs to the Dalai Lama (17 October 2011).
The conference, entitled Mind and Life XXIII "Ecology, Ethics and Interdependence" focussed on the interconnection between individual choices and environmental consequences. The Dalai Larma, "contemplative scholars", activists and ecological scientists came together to discuss global change and related issues at His Holiness's office in Dharamsala, India, 17-21 October, 2011.
